Rice Owls
Owl pride, Houston roots
Rice’s 1954 Cotton Bowl victory over Alabama remains one of college football’s memorable upsets. The Owls also reached the 2008 Texas Bowl after a 10-win season, giving Houston a postseason celebration and a reminder of the program’s historic moments.
Rice fans bring blue-and-gray pride and a close-knit campus spirit to Houston. The Bayou Bucket rivalry with the Cougars is the city’s signature college game, while matchups with Tulane and North Texas connect Rice to regional football.
