Overview
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Birthplace of college football
Rutgers played in the first intercollegiate football game in 1869 and won the rematch later that year, a milestone that gives the Scarlet Knights a unique place in the sport’s origin story. The 2006 season brought the program national attention with an 11-win campaign.
Rutgers fans bring scarlet pride from campuses across New Jersey and the New York metro area. Rivalries with Princeton and Penn State reflect the program’s history and geography, while Maryland and Syracuse add regional matchups.
